This page provides an overview of the ZipLine 3.0 web phone. It presumes that you have already successfully completed our online Starting Guide for Interpreters.
Once logged into ZipDX.com you will see a listing of your In-Progress Conferences and Pending Conferences. Clicking on the Web Phone icon in either listing will launch the ZipLine 3.0 web phone and connect you to the conference.
The Web Phone icon is displayed ten minutes prior to the scheduled start of the call. If you don’t see the icon try refreshing your browser window by pressing the F5 button.
Zipline 3.0 is designed to mimic the traditional interpreter’s console found at a conference venue. It controls the flow of interpretation, as well as acting as a high-quality soft phone.
The following image shows ZipLine 3.0 with interpretation on. The interpreter is unmuted, listening to the Floor channel while delivering into the English channel.
The various controls in Zipline 3.0 are grouped in four sections. The functions of these controls is described below:
- 1. Conference Status & Audio Controls
The ZipLine 3.0 status display & audio controls function as follows:
Conference Status
The top-most area displays status updates for the conference. Notifications may include:
- Interpretation off/on.
- Interpretation direction.
- Conference topic
- Notification when someone joins.
Voice Activity Meter
Provides an animated indication of audio level from your microphone. The animated line changes color with voice level:
- Green indicates moderate level
- Orange indicates increasing level
- Red indicates excessive level
When the microphone is muted a red X is displayed over the microphone icon .
Headset Volume Control
Provides quick way to reduce the volume heard in your headset.
- Slider fully to the right is 100% volume (default.)
- Moving the slider to the left reduces volume.
Note: If you need to increase the volume this must be done using the system volume control native to your computer.- 2. Interpretation Controls
The ZipLine 3.0 interpretation controls function as follows:
- Turns OFF the interpretation function.
- When interpretation is off all participants in the conference hear the Floor channel and the meeting acts like a traditional conference call.
- When an interpreter turns off interpretation they are automatically muted.
- Button background is red when interpretation is off, gray when interpretation is on.
- Turns ON the interpretation function.
- All conference participants are hear their designated language channel.
- When an interpreter turns on interpretation they are automatically unmuted.
- Button background is gray when interpretation is off, green when interpretation is on.
- Sets the direction of interpretation such that the interpreter hears the Floor channel in their headset, and delivers into the English channel.
- Participants in the Spanish channel hear the floor.
- Participants in the English channel hear the interpreter.
- Button background has three states:
- Black when interpretation is OFF
- Green when interpretation is ON & interpreting into English
- Gray when interpretation is ON & interpreting into Spanish
- Sets the flow of interpretation such that the interpreter hears the Floor channel in their headset, and delivers into the Spanish channel.
- Participants in the English channel hear the floor.
- Participants in the Spanish channel hear the interpreter.
- Button background has three states:
- Black when interpretation is OFF
- Green when interpretation is ON & interpreting into Spanish
- Gray when interpretation is ON & interpreting into English
- 3. Microphone Mute Controls
The ZipLine 3.0 microphone controls function as follows:
- Mutes your microphone
- When your microphone is muted, your audio is not transmitted into the conference.
- Button background is red when muted, gray when unmuted.
- Unmutes your microphone
- Button background is gray when muted, green when unmuted
- 4. Microphone/Headphone Selection Controls
The ZipLine 3.0 microphone/headphone selection controls function as follows: - Pull-down menu allowing microphone selection
- Not available when web phone is "connected"
- Analog headset microphone may be indicated as simply "Default"
- USB headset microphone should be explicitly listed
- Pull-down menu allowing headphone selection
- Can be changed at any time during a call.
- Analog headset may be indicated as simply "Default"
- USB headset should be explicitly listed
